TGI Thursday and Happy Halloween! The election is four days from now and the race couldn’t be tighter. While it appears the Republicans are likely to take the Senate, the House and the presidency are up for grabs. This issue separates the signals and noise that dominate the national discourse.
We should prepare for uncertainty because we’re not likely to know the election outcome by this time next week. Whether it be Maricopa County in the swing state of Arizona, ballot counting in Pennsylvania or one of the 165 election lawsuits already filed, we need to strap in for a rough couple of weeks ahead.
But we can be certain the outcome will leave half of the nation feeling disillusioned and disenfranchised.
Well folks, we don’t always get our way. Instead of bemoaning the outcome, suck it up and use the next four years to reflect upon how your political tribe managed to spend hundreds of millions of dollars promoting such a deeply flawed candidate.
And while we’re at it, perhaps we’ll revisit how we engage with each other when we disagree. Podcasters and political provocateurs Sam Harris and Ben Shapiro conduct a two-hour masterclass on rational discourse in this debatebetween the two presidential proxies posted earlier this week by our friends over at The Free Press.
In the interim, ignore the futility of the "existential crisis" chorus. The one probability we’re certain of is that America will survive.
Early voting is breaking records, and polling indicates a dead heat in swing states. If the "blue wall" of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin holds, it may have the power to decide the outcome. High turnout and slim margins suggest a tense election night and perhaps an extended period of recounts and legal battles reminiscent of the 2000 contest between George W. Bush and Al Gore. Here’s what to look for on election night.Read Full Story
